10 Easy & Simple Art and Craft Ideas for Kids

Art is a true passion, and some kids are just made for it! Being creative with paper should be a fun task for all the kids.

 Old keys wind-chime

Wind-chimes make a beautiful soft sound when the winds blow, and the colors of the wind-chime add to the beauty of the windows. Here’s how you can make a simple wind-chime out of old keys:

You’ll need:

  • 5-6 old keys
  • A piece of wood/stick. You can substitute the stick with a long and a narrow cylindrical tube too.
  • A string, or a thread
  • An oil color set

What to do:

  • First, paint the keys and the stick with colors of your choice. It’s a great exercise to let the kids choose the colors and paint the keys and the stick.
  • Next, pass a string through the holes in the keys, and keep each string of a different length.
  • Tie two pieces of strings on both ends of the stick, so that you can hang it.
  • Now, tie the keys on the string close enough for the keys to chime when the wind blows.
  • Hang the colorful wind chime on the window, and enjoy!

 Decorated Notebook Borders

Doesn’t ‘notebooks’ always sound too boring to the kids? Here’s a way of making notebooks interesting:

  • Pick a notebook for decoration.
  • Stick an open end of the printed paper tape on one end of the notebook.
  • Extend the printed paper tape towards the other end of the notebook.
  • Repeat for all sides.
  • To make it easier for the kids, cut the printed paper tape into smaller pieces.

  • Paint stems and leaves below the ladyfinger flowers.

 Simple washi tape game ideas for girls

Girls’ bedrooms can be fun places to decorate with simple materials. A hopscotch game on the floor tiles made from washi tape can be a fun project for little girls.

You’ll need:

  • Washi tapes
  • Floor space for playing hopscotch
  • (optional) Chalks

What to do:

  • (optional) Chalk out hopscotch game tiles and numbers on the floor with the chalk.
  • Stick the washi tapes on the chalked out tiles and the numbers in different colored washi tapes.

 Pencil shavings and paper flowers

  • Pencil Shavings
  • Green paper
  • Glue
  • A large size paper (color of choice)

What to do:

  • Arrange the pencil shavings on a paper to make it look like a flower head.
  • Glue the pencil shavings on the paper.
  • Cut shapes of leaves and branches from the green paper, and glue them on the larger paper under the pencil shavings.
  • You can also use green paint brush pens for the leaves and the branches.
  • (optional) Paint the pencil shavings with a color of your choice.

 Toilet paper roll snowman

Making snowmen out of snow definitely looks interesting. But what do you do when there is no snow? You make a snowman out of paper! Here’s how:

You’ll need:

  • Used toilet paper roll
  • White paper
  • Glue
  • Poster paint
  • Orange paper, blue paper

What to do:

  • Wrap and glue a white paper around the toilet paper roll.
  • Cut a triangle from the orange paper for the snowman’s nose.
  • Cut a strip from the blue paper to make a scarf for the snowman. Wrap this strip around the snowman’s neck, and glue it at the front.
  • Using black poster paint, draw two eyes, and a mouth for the snowman.
  • (optional) Using different colored poster paints, draw buttons on the snowman.

What to do:

  • Modeling clay is a very versatile element where the clay can be molded into different fruits to teach the colors and shapes of the fruits.
  • Mold the clay into round figures, in different colors of fruits, and add a leaf shape in green clay on the top of the round figures.
  • (optional) A mold can be used to give a specific shape to the clay.

 Easy bubble art ideas

Art should be fun and games. And here’s an idea on how to make art interesting for the kids:

You’ll need:

  • A drawing paper
  • A child-safe liquid detergent
  • Some water in a glass
  • A straw
  • Liquid paint

What to do:

  • Add liquid detergent to the water in a glass.
  • Mix it well, and add some liquid paint to the detergent solution.
  • Ask the kids to blow bubbles in the glass using the straw.
  • Once the bubbles start growing beyond the surface of the glass, place the paper on the glass.
  • Repeat the process to cover the entire drawing paper.

 Button Tree Canvas art project

Here’s another smart artsy idea that will make colors a wonderful affair for your kids:

You’ll need:

  • A drawing paper
  • Multi-colored unused buttons
  • Glue
  • Paint

What to do:

  • First, draw a simple tree with branches, or a bush with branches. To make things easier, you can ask the kids to place the buttons on the paper first without gluing them, and then drawing the branches around them.
  • Then, using the glue, stick the buttons on the branches.

The different colors of the buttons make the button trees a very artistic sight. And you won’t even have to think twice before putting it up on your fridge!

 Spray painting canvas

You’ll need:

  • A drawing paper
  • Liquid paint and a color mixing palette
  • Some water
  • An old toothbrush

What to do:

  • First, take some paint in a mixing palette, and add some water to it. Mix it well to make the color a little liquidy.
  • Then, use the old toothbrush and dip the bristles into the color.
  • Hold the bristles of the toothbrush using a thumb, and spray the color on the drawing paper.
  • Use different colors to make a colorful and beautiful spray painted canvas.

And your kids’ new masterpiece is ready!
